CHAIR AFFAIR is a project I am involved in with the
Every year over 100 artists transform donated furniture into beautiful home furnishings for a fund raising auction. The Community Warehouse is a wonderful non profit organization that supplies families in need with donated household items and furniture.
This is my project for the 2015 Chair Affair event. I will transform a drab vintage entryway bench into a child’s art center to inspire a young talented artist make something special. To design the bench for a child made safety for little fingers a prime concern. I removed multiple layers of yellowing peeling paint, repaired broken boards, secured exposed nails and installed safety hinges to prevent injuries. I tried to leave the scratches and dents to maintain the vintage feel. When completed it will painted with six layers of a quality chalk paint then distresses for a fun shabby chic finish. The underside of the seat lid will be transformed into a chalk board. There will be built in slots to secure an easel, a paint palette, canvases and brushes, all of which will be included. The bench can also be utilized as a toy box and as the child grows it can easily be converted for other storage. Watch for new photos as the project progresses.
My second project for the 2015 Chair Affair for the Community Warehouse is a family project.
My grandson Aidan Phillips is my constant junking buddy and already has redone a desk and a side table on his own. He was anxious to participate in the Chair Affair and these two children’s chairs are the perfect project. The chairs are sturdy quality pieces but are covered in crayon and marker. Aidan will clean, sand and paint them to compliment the tea cabinet.
This adorable miniature kitchen cabinet only needs some minor repairs and the doors realigned. I will paint it and outfit it for a little princess and her tea parties with her BFF.
